Stronger Together

God has created each of us uniquely. In this entire world, there is only one you. No one else is exactly like you, nor can he or she have exactly what you have. No one can do exactly or have what you do and have. You carry within you specific gifts, skills, strengths, experiences and expertise that is unique to you.

Yet no one is an island. No matter how gifted, experienced or wise you are, there will be certain things that others can do better than you. Likewise, there are certain things no one can do as well as you.

Your strength is my weakness and my strength is your weakness. That’s why we need each other and as Pastor Jeff often quotes: let’s not compete but let’s complete each other.

In John 17:20-23, Jesus prayed that all believers, throughout all time, would demonstrate a supernatural unity. And, He stressed that this unity would amaze the world:

The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—
Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
So they might be one heart and mind with us….
Then they’ll be mature in this oneness,
And give the godless world evidence
That you’ve sent me and loved them
In the same way you’ve loved me. (MSG)

Unity in the body of Christ testifies to the unity and strength of God’s eternal Three-In-Oneness. God is One. When we are united in the church, we demonstrate the unity and hence the strength of the message of the gospel. If we are divided, we tell the world that the message of salvation in Jesus Christ is subject to amendment and/or discontinuity.
Hence Jesus prayed for believers to have one-ness. Together, we are stronger.
